Hydroponics @ IJ Katong 2017

The Science Club girls have embarked on a new Hydroponics project. Hydroponics is gardening without soil and is a great way to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs under totally controlled conditions. It involves using artificial lighting. There is a pump that circulates nutrient-enriched water through the plant’s root system.

From this project, the students learn about the life cycles of different plants. They are involved in planting, transferring and monitoring the different stages of growth. They also learn that hydroponics takes up less space in urban Singapore and that there is less water usage as the only water loss is through evaporation.
