Youth Celebrate!

On 26th July 2015, 80 students, teachers and parents were treated to exuberant displays of performances by various arts group, exciting playoffs in sports and marching by the uniformed groups during the Youth Celebrate! Event held at the Singapore Sports Hub.  Youth Celebrate! also marked the official opening of the Singapore Sports Hub.

The day started off with exciting playoffs in football and ultimate Frisbee.  Cheers were heard all around the stadium and the atmosphere was electrifying! As we were cheering the players on, there were two records that were being set at the OCBC Aquatic centre right next to us - the formation of the largest floating Singapore flag and the most number of laps swam in an hour.

Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong arrived soon after and he gave an inspiring speech to the youth who had gathered at the Singapore Sports Hub for this significant milestone. He encouraged the youth to make the most of what they have, to stretch their limit and help one another as one Singapore team. We can show the world what Singapore can be!

Items of various meaning were then put into the Time Capsule by various youth representatives and it was then sealed to mark this special occasion. The Sports Hub was officially declared open!

We then enjoyed performances from various performing arts groups, marching by uniformed groups and there was also an exciting novelty football match between ex-national footballers and primary school students!

It was a meaningful way to celebrate the youth of Singapore and to mark the official opening of the Singapore Sports Hub.

Reflection by student:

The Youts Celebrate! event was really nice and fun to watch. I especially liked the performances and indoor fireworks display at the end of the opening. I felt very happy to be able to go for it. I will remember this occasion forever and I hope to be able to witness other significant milestones of Singapore like the 75th or 100th National Day Parade. – Gayathri T.M CE6
