Values in Action

Our Objective

Values In Action @ CHIJ Katong seeks to help pupils and staff live our school’s mission and inculcate our school values through a range of activities. Through VIA activities, we hope to heighten self and social awareness and civic responsibility. Pupils and staff learn to appreciate the joy in contributing to society to enrich the lives of all. In addition, we learn the value of service and developing lasting friendships with one another.

CCA Interaction with Towner Gardens School

Revised and launched in 2013, the CCA Interaction with Towner Garden School (TGS) programme aims to enable pupils of CHIJ (Katong) Primary become more aware of their own   perceptions and attitudes towards people with special needs. It also aims to enable pupils of CHIJ (Katong) Primary become more aware of the challenges that pupils’ with special needs face. Through this awareness, we hope pupils will become more understanding towards pupils with special needs and hence be advocates in promoting this understanding to the community.

In semester 1, pupils from our modular CCA groups visit TGS and develop a better understanding of the type of lessons and activities offered by Towner Gardens School as well as participate in interaction activities with them. TGS pupils also have an opportunity to take part in the activities planned by our non-modular CCA groups when they came over to our school on our CCA days in semester 2. During these visits, our pupils also buddy the pupils from TGS when they have their lunch in our school. TGS pupils are guided as they buy food from our school canteen and apply their money skills as well as when they return utensils to their respective collection points.

The CCA Interaction with TGS is indeed an opportunity to put our Mission and Values into Action.
